HDD Partition and System Registry

Let's say I have a HDD with one partition for the OS (WinXP) and another partition for "Programs" (MS Office, Games, etc..)

....then later on I decide to reformat and reinstall the OS on the same partition, will my programs still work on the other partition? Doesn't the system registry for those programs get erased when I reinstall WinXP?

I doubt many would work well or at all.

Okay, that's what I thought, wasn't sure. So, it'd be a good idea to have the OS and programs on one partition and have "non-registry" items like....documents, mp3s, DVD movies, etc.. on the other partitions....right?

You can always backup and restore your registry.
