I recently purchased a LiteOn SOHW-812S (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=27-106-935&depa=1) from newegg. System specs are at my sig.

The DVD burner keeps making coasters of DVD+Rs when I try to make dvd backups. I use DVD X Copy Platinum. I still yet have to successfully burn a DVD+R. The DVD+R media are high quality (Philips and the DVD+R that came with the LiteOn drive). It coasted 2 out of 6 DVD-Rs too.

I don't know what's causing this. I verified that the DMA is enabled. Am I missing something here?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What speed are you burning at? I have the 811s, and it will burn some dvd+r's at 8x, but I stay safe and burn at 4x for now til the 8x dvd blanks are cheaper

If your copies play on your computer but not your home player, the problem is most likely the media is not compatable with the home unit. Home units can be very picky about the media they accept. I would try a -r disc. 321 software is not the most reliable of products either.

I don't know what speed I am burning at. DVDX just burns without saying anything. The media doesn't play at all, either on my PC or home dvd player. I am almost certain it is the software's fault.

What kind of dvd burning software do you use to back-up your dvds? Most people said they use Alcohol 120 but 120 can't burn DVD9s.

You're better off using DVDShrink to rip, then another prog like RecordNow DX or any other software to burn. I had no luck with DVD X COPY (any version)

I'm using Nero to burn the files.
The newest Nero does burn DVD-9 but your burner can't, so that's no issue here.

How long does it take for the DVD to be burnt completely ?
25 minutes = 2.4x
15 minutes = 4x
8 minutes = 8x

Ok, just an update.

I dumped DVD X Platinum (garbage). I installed DVD Shrink and I installed Sonic My DVD. I use the Shrink to rip and Sonic's RecordNow DX.

So far, no coasters :D Thanks everyone for all the help. However, my system get cranky when I rip & burn while playing Broodwar. I had to get rid of my OC and run at stock in order to rip, burn, and play at the same time.
