Is this a cheap dvd burner:
Digital Research 8x Internal DVD±RW/±R/CD-RW Drive - White
Ive seen digital research just never owned one, how are they?

I personall would not buy that one
get a sony or light-on
they have good reports from users on here.

Agreed with bailey. It's usually a good idea to stay away from generic products when you're dealing with PC's. It's worth the little bit extra to get a quality part. Plextor, Pioneer and LG are also good, but the 2 bailey said are probably the most popular around here.

Check www.cdrlabs.com for reviews on different drives.
Because it is not a widely known brand, Digital Research is more than likely a re-packager of other brands such as NEC or BenQ I suppose you can ask in-store if they'll pop a box open for you to see the manufacturer tag on top of the drive. I've heard of several generic brand drives actually being NEC in the box, which are supposed to be pretty good quality (but try to avoid BenQ).
A good example of a re-packaging company is "Azenram". It might be a brand of memory, but in the packages are Crucial, Kingston, Spectek etc. which are good quality RAM manufacturers.
