View Full Version : bios showing incorrect size of hd
I have an abit kx7-333 motherboard, when I inatalled a 80g hd the bios will only show a size of 33g??
What brand and model is the hard drive ?
Have you jumpered it correctly ?
Have you connected the cable correctly ? What cable are you using, the 40-ribbon or 80-ribbon cable ?
RJ
samsung sp0802n is the drive, yes jumpers are set, slave for the new drive and master on my current drive that has the win 2k on it. As for the cable I am using the same cable my current hd is connected to, not sure of 40 or 80.. the slave is attached at the end and the master at the second connector

thats backwards
the master should go on the end connector and the slave should be on the middel one, but thats not the main problem, the drive has not been slected for the large size in the bois.

The Master drive should be on the end of the cable, and jumpered Master and the Slave is on the second connector, and jumpered Slave.
Your drive seems that you are formatted in FAT32, which will allow you to register a drive up to 32 Gigs. If you have the option in WIN2K to use NTFS you would be fine. I have FAT32 on my ME machine, but I have it partitioned out and am able to avoid that problem.
I'll switch the connectors. So the BIOS access mode should be set to large instead of auto?

I always use auto.

auto should have worked, I have not used that brand of drive, does it have a jumper for lba or something like that ?
its a addressing thing I think.
I picked up the drive from newegg samsung drive specs (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-152-010&depa=0) .
I tried the large Bios Access change but received the same drive size
the drive is formatted NTFS
it was an addressing issue, thank you all for your time and knowledge.
