Onboard LAN Help!

I have an Asus MoBo with on board LAN, but it doesnt seem to want to connect to the internet...any idea what I have to do to get it to detect my connections?

is the onboard lan enabled in your bios?
is the onboard lan card shown under "network adapters" in your device manager?
what version of windows are you running?

I know my connection is good because I use the connections I tested it with for this computer.

so you are connected, but you don't have internet access?
are you connected to a router?

1) yes its set to auto(only option besides disable)

4) My connections work fine on my other computer, and it is through a router.

what shows up under network connections?
have you run the network connection wizard in xp?

I have run connection wizard, but when I press finish it doesnt atempt to connect to the internet(not sure if it does on xp.)

In lan or high speed internet it says "1394 Connection Enabled 1394 Net Adapter" and "1394 Connection 2 Enabled 1394 Net Adapter #3"

You don't have the drivers installed for the adapter. Put the motherboard CD in and install them along with the drivers for all the rest of the onboard stuff. That is always the first thing you do after installing Windows on a new build.

Remove all those 1394 connections - Windows will put one or more back, but you may have too many right now. That's Firewire, not Ethernet.

Right click on My Computer, Manage. Device Manager is in there. Any devices with yellow flags need drivers installed.

Well there is a problem there, I dont remeber getting any MoBo CD's with my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe...and I lost my Linksys CD I think(isnt that the only thing I need?) How can I remove the 1394 connections That were already there? Im not at home right now, so I cant go into device manager to check on the yellow flags, I will do that later.

Also if it makes any difference my MoBo comes with an Nvidia port and a 3com port. One of those ports doesnt seem to do anything or even have an activity light(guessing this port is for home network), while the other one does have the orange activity light, which does blink when plugged into port.

You have dual onboard network adapters. You have to install the driver for the one you plan on using, I'd install the drivers for both if they are both enabled in the bios. If you don't have a CD, you have to download the drivers from the Asus website. The Linksys CD is for the router, you don't need it.

To remove the 1394 adapters, just right click on them.

do I just copy these files to a floppy, and tell my computer to boot from floppy?

Well there to large for a floppy, and my burner is on the computer that cant access the internet, so it looks like im stuck there.

No, you don't boot with a floppy to install drivers - you install them in Windows following the instructions in the readme.

That motherboard comes with a CD - try to find it.

If you can't find the CD, and won't or can't move your burner, try to borrow a USB flash memory key. Floppies aren't going to cut it with those files, they are way too big.
