"Thoroughbred" or "Barton"?

Is a Barton better than Thoroughbred core ???
And should I get a via km400 or a nforce2 chipset
I was looking for a cheap mobo under $70 which of these should I go with?
-Shuttle "AN35N-Ultra" nForce2 Ultra 400
or
- ASUS "A7V8X-MX SE"

Any advice is appreciated

1. Barton is better than Thoroughbred.
2. Nforce2 by a longshot.
3. Asus is the best motherboard manufacturer around.

the AN35N Ultra is a pretty good board, its the best board you can get for so little money. i have used it in quite a few builds and havent had one complaint. its also a great OCers mobo if you decide to do so. for $57, there arent many boards out there that can come close to the price to performance ratio of the AN35N Ultra.

If you are needing on-board video there is nothing wrong with the KM400 chipset, no matter what anybody who has not used them has to say, they are great performing boards.
The NForce2 is also a great performing chipset, if you do not have some strange problems with them, like I have had with them.
Yes Asus makes great boards, however the best value at this time is Abit and Epox and a couple of Soyo boards, all of which I have used recently. Epox is really making a great quality board these days.
On theother hand I will not use any Shuttle again, about 8 months ago I bought three of the same model board at the same time. Two out of the three were bad, so forget them.

I just build a Barton on an Asus Nforce2 and it works great.
Low temps too, I have a monstor copper heatsink and get temp about 11 degree F over room temp. about 89 F.

I use a Soltek board with the Via 600 chipset,the 600 chipset is another option.
I chose it for it's native raid support and with a Barton 2500@2.3 gigs and 2 WD 10,000rpm sata drives in raid 0 configuration, it's very stable and very fast!
It was also quite affordable.
