Anything about Lindows (Linspire)

Just curious if anyone has tried it or anything.

Linspire is an excellent Linux OS. I've been running it for about a year with many less problems than any Windows OS.
Linspire's Click-n-Run software installation is extremely easy and well designed and you don't have to be a Linux guru to get things like Realplayer, etc to work. Excellent support from the company and you can still do all the shell based stuff in this OS if you choose to!
Buy Linspire or download it and you will be very happy...I guarantee!

I haven't used Linspire, but I would recommend using a different flavor of Linux like Mandrake, Fedora, etc. By doing this, you'll increase your computer knowledge tenfold, and it will be able to do everything Linspire can do. However, if you want a non-MS OS with little fuss, Linspire is [probably] the way to go.

I've gotta second what juicelooser said, mandrake fedora and suse are all good distros that you can learn from, and eventually know enough so that you can try out many other distributions. Linspire is just marketing its software for people who don't have the time to, or don't care to learn about the internals of linux. The price also seems a bit high, I think its something like $50 a year for upgrades, most other distributions are completely free.

If you want a distro that's easy to install and has graphical configuration, a working default desktop, etc., then SuSE 9.1 is the best I've seen.

I agree to the max! Try SuSE 9.1. I would not go half measure with Lindows (lin whater). If you want to make the switch get a main stream linux distro (I would stay away from Redhat Fendora whatever). You may be surprised on how easy it is.

I thought at first Lindows was a cheap Nix distro that woulda faulterd a while ago. Now with the allience with Transgaming, and easy to use interface, (i.e. Click and Run, my home, programs.) I think I might buy it as my next distro. Go right ahead, get it. Fedora Core is crap, I've used Redhat since 9, and core 1, I dont like how they took out a bunch of Mutlimedia Libraries and Apps. Its very stable, and a pain. If anything else, go with Lycoris, Mandrake, or SuSE.

all i know is lindows runs real slow on my box, suse 9.1 is muck better and the pro edition ($89) comes with tons of software both gnu, and comersial, and documentation. and it is a better investment that windows

If u look at the system requirements, u need an 800Mhz p3 or better, 256Mbs of ram, and a 32mb video card supporting 1024x768 or better.

Whatever happened to the good old days of running fast on a 386? Is Linix getting a case of Windows Bloat?
