can the same thing or something similar be done in xp as i used2do with win98? i had a collection of different oem logos and oeminfo files for ibm, compaq, dell, gateway and so on. then when i did a reinstall with the windows cd instead of a restore cd for that particular unit i could make it look somewhat like the original by using the splashy screen and the oeminfo (which controlled the look of the system properties screen).
can this be done with xp machines easily or is it a complicated bucket of worms?

this is what i am talking about for 98 & 2k:
http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/systemproperties.htm
on his win xp page he has this same information but it does not say it is for xp, still says win 2k (system applet branding)

Run notepad and paste this text:

[General]

Manufacturer="You can display useful information here"

Model="You can display useful information here"

[Support Information]

Line1="You can display useful information here"

Line2="You can display useful information here"

Line3="You can display useful information here"

Line4="You can display useful information here"

Line5="You can display useful information here"

Line6="You can display useful information here"

Line7="You can display useful information here"

Line8="You can display useful information here"

Line9="You can display useful information here"

Line10="You can display useful information here"

Save it as oeminfo.ini in C:\WINDOWS\System 32. You can also create a bitmap file and name it as oemlogo.bmp, save it in C:\WINDOWS\System 32.
Now, try to hold down Win key while pressing Pause/break. You'll notice that the text and image you created will appear in your System properties.

EZ
did you notice that i know how to do this in 98
but
want to know how to do it in WinXP
??
For Win98, the 2 files, "Oemlogo.bmp" and "Oeminfo.ini" are located in the C:\Windows\System folder.
For WinY2K, The 2 files, "Oemlogo.bmp" and "Oeminfo.ini" are located in the C:\WINNT\System32 folder. Depending on where you loaded your O/S, exchange the "C:" in the pathway above to your drive letter.

There is probably some way to do it by editing the registry, but that those specs appearing is standard within windows. I often use it to quickly check some of the system's specs when I'm working on a machine. It's a handy thing to have around.

you can open the oeminfo file in notepad and edit the lines you don't like
