I asked this question once before - but lost thread.

I want to change MB from current 900mhz AMD -
to a Celeron 2.7 Gig Soyo board, and new video
board. TigerDirect's MB I have is "Soyo P4x400
Dragon Lite 478 motherboard".

Can I just go in and replace it all - and then
boot up or reinstall XP? I want to keep my
80gig Hard Drive and all the files ...........

Will this work? I need some hints, BEFORE I
tear it all apart and make over.

I have a copy of XP HOME I bought, and a
copy of XP PROFESSIONAL Upgrade, I
bought. Have codes for both XP products.
I think I registered XP Home originally with this
PC.

Fred

hmm, I've never switched from an AMD to Intel, but I have switched AMD to AMD more than once. I'm sure all will be fine though. You will have to do a repair install of Windows XP.

Going the "2.7gig Celeron MB upgrade" was just
a $$$ opportunity, to get me past the Soyo .9 gig
AMD I have now.

How does one do a "repair XP" - just reload the
XP HOme CD??

After you have your new stuff installed, go into the bios and set the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive. Put in the Windows XP CD, and it should boot from that.

Boot with the XP CD - the version that's currently installed - and go into Setup (not repair). When it finds the existing install, then choose repair.

You may not have to do this - it doesn't hurt to try to boot it, if it bluescreens, then you have to repair reinstall anyway.
