Had a hard drive crash.....replaced it and now trying to get everything operational again. Quicken 2000 is causing major grief and their support area is worthless so I thought I would post here.....you guys are usually right on.

When trying to go online with Quicken for updating stock prices, I get this error message:

QW caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7a138.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Quicken.....same thing. Any thoughts?

Just a guess - reinstall, repair, or update Internet Explorer?

reboot

Get Quicken installed and all the options set the way you want them, then run SFC and extract kernel32.dll from the CD.

Quicken was all set ready to connect to internet. Ran sfc, extracted new kernel32.dll. Still got error message. Reinstalled quicken (4th time), nothing changed. I am stumped.

Windows 98 se. IE 5.0

Good point though....prior to the hard drive crash, it was working fine.....and I had Windows 98se with all update patches. Hadn't yet done that.....until this a.m.

Updated Win98 with all patches and upgrated to IE5.5. Uninstalled and reinstalled Quicken. Same problem.

What in the xxxxxx is going on?

Try this:

You also may have a virus.

Reinstall OS

Get all patches

"Then" install quicken (why are you using such a crappy bit of programming.)

FDISK andf reformat harddrive if problem persistes.

Use format /u as this will overwrite all sectors and ensure virus deletion (especially after fdisk)

Blue screens can be caused by hardware defects.

UNBELIEVABLE........

After talking with Intuit techs, they tell me it is a shared file issue. Since I reinstalled TurboTax FIRST after the crash, the Quicken files don't recognize the needed shared files. Had I installed Quicken first, it would have been ok.

Merely delete the Intuit folder, reinstall Quicken, then the shared files are accessible by both.

Told the guy he has to put this simple fix on their website. He agreed.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the tips.

Thank you for sharing that with us. I was having the same problem but my Financial Institute indicated right up front that it was a shared file issue so fortunately I didn't start formatting my hard drive and all that... :D

But my financial institute also told me that I only had to completely uninstall TurboTax, reboot, then install Quicken 2000. As you know... that did not work because it did not remove the shared INTUIT folder in the Windows directory. Your message not only resolved the problem, and clarified what was going on, but it also made me realize that I probably did not HAVE to uninstall Turbo Tax either. Just remove the shared files as mentioned above.

I'm sure the INTUIT folder in the Windows directory was the culprit, but there was also in INTUIT folder in my "COMMON FILES" folder in PROGRAM FILES. I took it out too, just to be safe.

Anyway... it is all working now and I wanted to THANK YOU for that very helpful tip!!! By the way, it is now April 30th, almost May, and I still see no mention of any of this on the Intuit web site in spite of what that TECH told you earlier in the month about agreeing that it should be there. - John A.
