I was wondering what brands of ethernet adapters and switches everyone here would recommend. I was told Lynksys and D-link are good. are they?

thanks

Ethernet cards are so cheap and easy to replace it doesn't matter what you buy. I usually wait till they're free at a retail store (again, don't care what make).

You might want to get a decent router though. Since they aren't as easy to replace and actually require a little bit of configuring (usually) you might consider a reliable "good" brand.

Linksys routers seem to be the best for the buck. D-link, Netgear, Microsoft, etc- are the step below.

I like Linksys Cards, I have also had good sucess with netgear cards.

never owned D-link. I have several 3 Com Nics I have to test and then probably put up for sale in a couple of days.

thanks for the replies. i'm planning RJ-45, I'm making a DAW with 2 PC's so I was thinking gigabit for lots of audio.

I had good experience with Linksys ethernet cards.
I do not like Netgear ethernet cards.

For wireless networks I recommend Linksys and cisco for cards and routers. For non-wireless I dont really see any difference other than making sure everything is compatible. I use a non-wireless D-Link router and it does its job, never had a problem.

Heck - even 3Com nics are only $25 now - and those are Cadillacs along with Intel cards. For compatibility with anything, any cheap nic with a Realtek chip will work just fine.
