wats the differance?

whats the differance from cathode from led.. they both light, but i know cathode uses elcetions to do it.. but wats the big differance that every1 wants em..

A LED (light emitting diode) is basically a tiny lightbulb (for lack of a better comparison) but they can be quite bright. A cold cathode is more similar to a flourescent light bulb (long and skinny with light all along the length). Guess it just depends on what you want to use them for. LED's can be more directional if you want to light a particular component or area while CC generally provides light everywhere.

An LED is a diode (like an electrical one-way valve) for DC (direct current). LED's can operate on a variety of voltages (you can get standard 2V versions, also 5V, 12V and 24V) bi-colour,tri-colour and RGB versions now that give different colours depending on how they are connected.

Cold-Cathode's work in a similar method to a neon-tube. A high voltage is generated by an inverter drive that drives the tube.

The CC will give more widespread light output than the LED which is basically directional. LED's and CC's generate about the same level of heat from normal operation.
