Is there any software that will allow me to listen to my MP3 library on another computer. Like install the program and contact my comp and be able to listen to my mp3's from home...

Yes, SlimServer (http://slimdevices.com/pi_features.html) will allow you to do this. Istall it on the host pc, and then connect to it from wherever you want to listen to your mp3s from.

Not only that, but I think its free!

I don't think I have ever tried it with music but I would guess about 70 percent that if you use PCAnywhere that it would play music on your computer. With PCAnywhere, you can access your home computer from either a telephone or through the Internet.

The issue for MP3s is bandwidth. If you only have a 56K connection, I don't think streaming mp3 music is going to work too well. The average size of a mp3 music file is around 3 megs or so and an average song takes about 3 minutes to play. At 56K speed it takes about 15 to 18 minutes to download a song so therefore you have got a big problem because your song isn't go to play fast enough cause not enough data can get transferred. But if you have a faster connection on both ends then it should work.

If you only have a 56K connection than maybe if you convert the mp3s to the real player format so that a 3 meg music file becomes about 300K then it has a much better chance of working.

If you do have a fast connection, you could just download the file itself using PCAnywhere.

If you have a 56 connection you could convert the mp3s to realplayer format and then download 300K files which wouldn't take that long and then play them on your computer.
