I am building a new computer. The new PC has an ASUS motherboard, a serial hard drive and a DVD-ROM drive, as well as a new video card.

Question: In what order do I add the new software?

I have the following CD's:

1. Windows XP Home (OEM)
2. ASUS CD (for the MB)
3. Video Card CD
4. DVD-ROM CD

Please help!!!

Operating system comes first, so install Windows. At that point, I would probably do mobo software, video card, and then DVD. In other words, pretty much how you listed it yourself.

First the OS, that's be Windows XP in your case.

Then all drivers, like for your video card, onboard sound, onboard NIC etc. Order doesn't matter.

Also I've read that it's recommendable to reinstall DirectX after installing the video drivers. Since Windows XP doesn't come with the newest DirectX (I believe) install DirectX after you installed all the drivers.

And then comes all the normal programs, like your DVD playback software, or CD burning software, games, whatever.

You seem to have a good order, but I would go and download all the windows updates before installing the dvd software
