Hidden Firewall?

didn't quite know where to put this...

does windows xp home have a hidden firewall? or norton? for some reason after i reformatted my computer i cant play any online games without massive connection probs... how would i go about turning these off (ive already turned off as much norton as i can)

Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on your connection and choose properties > Advanced Tab > Uncheck the box in the ICF area.
