Today at work another agent solved an issue where a computer was pulling an invalid IP address in the 169.254.x.x range.
His fix was something I had never considered. It was to go into INTERNET options, in settings from the general tab.
Then go into View Objects and he removed the items that had suspicious names, then rebooted and it pulled a correct IP address.
Anyways, just to experiment. I checked my computer and found 2 objects that should not be there. I run spybot and adaware fully updated and they remained.
I am including a couple of screen shots I edited together. Don't mind my screen shot editing, I am not a graphic artist.
I right clicked on the items and went to properties and as you will see they don't' give any useful info about themselves. I figure since they are not listing their vendor info they most likely should not be on my computer. I deleted said items from mine.
Just note that many of the legit plug ins for your browser are here. Such as shockwave, flash, etc. So be careful what you decide to do. I do not have a list of items that is safe or unsafe to remove. what you do with this info, is up to you as I can make not claims to effectiveness or safeness of removing items from here.
