Power DVD vs WMP

Noticed something odd recently on an old machine with Windows 98se. I test played a music cd with Windows Media Player and everyting sounded fine. Then I loaded Power DVD, and when I played the same music cd with the Power DVD program the quality of the sound was noticeably better. Tried the same test with the system in my sig and no noticeable difference. Anyone else have an older system running these two programs? Be interesting to see if others experience the same thing.

PowerDVD (with it's own .dll's and codecs) will play most everything better than WMP.
I use it to test all my burns before burning, and it's got the most accurate screen reproduction as well.
Comes with probably the best mpeg2 decoder there is.

I didn't either with the same speakers you have, HH. Plus I think the better quality sound cards tend to compensate for the WMP quality. But on an older system it is really noticeable. I'm going to try it on my daughter's later tonite.

True. For fun, I tried it on my video editing system, and heard no difference. On my kids machines, a huge difference.

I play a few games with Power DVD on and it makes a huge difference in highlighting game sound effects, along with any background music playing. I have to turn my speakers DOWN because it amplifies and enhances so well.

I use PowerDVD because it makes a bit of difference on my system
I'm the opposite of Ron though, I have to crank up the volume a bit more for some reason
