I turned on my new computer THAT I BUILT for the first time today. It didn't blow up!
It appears to boot up OK. I reviewed the BIOS. I left things with the default values. I just want to get the computer up. Windows begans to startup (Windows 2000 banner appears) then I get the message below: STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF201B84C,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000) INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE If this is the first time you’ve see this Stop error screen, Restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check for virusess on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is propperly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard driver corruption, and then restart your computer. Refer to your Getting started manual for more information on troubleshooting Stop errors. The disk already has a copy of Windows 2000 on it. Is it possible that since this hard drive/OS is a new computer maybe I should reinstall W2K? If so that’s OK by me. Now that I am thinking about it the current version of Windows was configured for the old machine not this one. Am I on the right track? At least when I turned it on I didn’t take out half the planet, WHEW!. ![]() As far as I am concern not a bad start... It could have been worse! ADDED: I have not install any drivers. I can't since I can't get to the OS.

On this site I discovered an excellent link that more or less has provided me with a solution to my problem:
http://www.forum.pcmech.com/archive/.../f-5-p-73.html I did a search on the page above using the error message (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE), and there it was my answer! It appears that I have to do a clean install of the OS. If anyone has any other comments or suggestions please feel free to express them. ![]() Hey I am still having fun!!

All you have to do is a repair reinstall, not a clean install. A clean install is better if you don't have data you don't want to lose.
Boot with the 2000 CD. Choose Setup (not repair). When it finds the existing install of 2000, THEN choose Repair. There's a thread in our Tips and Tricks forum about this. |

Thanks for the info glc!
I didn't have anything on the drive that was worth saving so I did a clean install. Why not? Brand new machine I should have a clean version of the O/S. The machine is purring like kitten. One of the display lights appears not to be working. I will look at that situation next. It is so nice to know exactly what is under the hood. I will NEVER buy another desktop again!I still can’t believe that I built this computer myself! |
