Video Card installation

i just built my computer for the first time yesterday..
everything works fine except my video card(ati radeon 9800 pro 128mb) doesnt seem to be working properly.

like i can see everything clearly in windows but when i try to play games that require little graphic requirement such as halflife 1,starcraft the screen is dark and i hardly can see anything.

obviously, it seems as if graphic card integrated in the motherboard(
IC7-G ABIT) is doing the work NOT the ati radeon 9800 pro...

by the way i installed catalyst CD disk that came with the video card.

but i have NOT updated driver from the ati website since my dsl is going to be arriving in like a week.

would updating driver solve this problem or could it be something else?

my computer system is as follows-

p4 3.2 socket 478 northwood
abit ic7-g mother board
1g kingston value ram
ati 9800 radeon pro 128mb
160gb hitachi harddrive
cd rw drive
power supply- 350W antec

Try turning up the brightness on the game. It might be lower then what your used to because you just installed them. Just a suggestion

That motherboard doesn't have on-board video, all the video work is handled by the 9800 Pro.

You may just have a defective video card.

thanks for the reply cricket

yes, i dont think there's integrated video card in this motherboard
(ABIT IC7-G) since i found no video option under advanced BIOs option.

could it be some problem with the monitor??? BECAUSE THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO ME WITH THE LAST COMPUTER with the same monitor

i used this monitor for about 4 years and some time last year, i could not see graphics very well in games such as starcraft. and im using this same monitor for this new coomputer. maybe i should try buying new monitor??

Yes, it does sound as if the monitor is the problem. Time for a new one.

Please don't post the same question in multiple forums. This one is closed, I'll keep the one in the appropriate forum open - multimedia, audio, and video.
