Fried cpu?
I'm running an Athlon 64 3000+, 1 gig corsair memory, 80 gig hd, asus mobo, 9800 xt, with 3 fans in the case. It was a really hot night but i was pretty confident that it could handle the heat cuz i built it close to a year ago with no major probs so far. as i said im just sitting on my comp and not doing anthing too cpu intensive and it just dies, completly. no chugging, no blue screen of death just dead. its as if someone just pulled the plug outta the wall.
i opened it up thinking maybe the powersupply died or maybe the blacklight inside it had caused a spark and fried the mobo. Im not sure if this is the case because i have a greeen power led on the mobo and it lights up when the cable is in but nothing else goes, not the fans, video card etc. This leads me to think that maybe i fried the processor. Would a fried processor cause a rig to act like this, cause i mean some power has to be getting to the mobo if the led is on, but nothing works. Im getting kinda desperate cuz im not sure what to do. i dont wanna go buy a new processor and thats not the prob and im stuck with it. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated and im sorry for the long post, just wanted to make sure i didnt leave out any details. |

I would swap out the power supply first since the fans don't run. Check all the plugs also .

Welcome to PC Mech forums
![]() Can you post your full sys specs including power supply unit brand and wattage? Certain power supply companies are known to do that. kram

![]() Actually since nothing seems to work that is going to lead away from the CPU, i think you should do as above and swap the PSU. Also look all over the mobo and any other circuit boards like the RAM vid card etc. and look for a little burn spot on it which may be the damage you are looking for

Pull the motherboard out of the case and follow these procedures. |

Since it's a generic power supply I would suspect that before the motherboard. Cricket
