PC won't start anymore

Hi,

Over a year ago I built my own PC, using it only for music, no internet connection. It worked fine, until a few days ago when I simply could not start it up anymore. No indication of a problem when I switched it off tyhe day before.
The green light on the Motherboard is lit.
The On/Off button works, and when I bypass it by connecting the pins with a screwdriver does not change anything.
The PSU (Chieftech 360W) warms up when I leave the PC plugged in and switched on for a while.
I unplugged and replugged the cables, no change, still does not work.

Motherboard D845PESV
Pentium 4

What do you knowledgable people think it may be: The motherboard is finished? The PSU no good?

Thanks for some suggestions.

First thing I would do is try another P4 ready power supply.

Thanks for the quick reply, Cricket.

Would the fact that the PSU warms up not be an indication that it works?

On the other hand, nothing works, none of the 3 HD's, not the cpu fan, not the PSU fan.

Before asking the question I searched this forum for similar cases to mine, and found recommendations of PSU's like Antec. The brand that I have is not one of the recommended ones.

What are the latest recommendations, especially when I want a quiet one. Zalman?

I did some more homework and found the sticky thread with the recommendations and other good info.

As I wanted to upgrade my PSU for a long time but never got around to it, I ordered a Antec SmartPower 500W. This is more than I need now, but It should be good for a long time.

As it happens my mobo has another year and a half guarantee, so if the Antec does not fix it, the mobo will be replaced free of charge.
I will have to wait until mid next week to collect it, as I bought it from an 'etail' shop who does not have it in stock, but is cheaper (€100).

I'll keep you posted with the result, for the record.

I wouldn't condemn the power supply just yet - Chieftecs are the same as Enlights.

Thumbs up Resolved

Yesterday I finally collected the Antec 500 Watt Smartpower 2.0 from the shop and installed it. The computer fired up straight away when starting it the normal way.
This confirms the good info that is in this forum about this issue, the power supply is as important as the rest of the components.
The computer seems to work better, but that could also just be me imagining it, being so happy that it works again. Is is certainly more quiet.

Thumbs up to the Forum, and thanks Cricket, for pointing me in the right direction.

Peace to all.
