Need some help with sli stuff & hdtv monitors?
I might be building myself a new pc in a few months, or a year, depends how many games come out that require the resources of battlefeild 2..
anyhoo, at the moment im aiming at dual 7800 gtx's, But i have a few questions about sli.. 1. how big of a powersupply would I need? would a 520 watt be big enough? 2. what are those 2 slots inbeween the 2 pci 16x slots for, http://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...82E16813131517 acording to the specs.. those are pci x1 slots.. if so, *** is a pci x1 slot, and what do you put in it? 3. dual core chips will fit into a regular slot, it doesn't require some weird dual socket mother board right? 4. I want to get some sort of a hdtv witch i can use for my pc.. i have no idea what im taling about in this area, but ive heard some ppl do that.. I looked at lcd tvs and saw they only go to some crappy 1200x764 res or something, my friends were are 1920x1200 or 1600x1200 or 1600x900 res.. was exactly would I buy to do that? and i dont mean those 24 inch dell lcd tvs or whatever.. I think he said it was some 60 inch hdtv.. i was thinking more around 30-40ish.. also im not new to this forum, im frank horrigan, but i dont have any rights to post or anything for some reasion.. so i just made a new account.. |

I just bought myself a an SLI rig with dual 7800s. Look a few posts back for the full specs.
1. I bought a 600 watt Enermax. Run with the best. But 520 should be enough, depending on what else is in the case. 2. I honestly don't know what they are for. 3. As long as your board supports dual-core processors, yes. It's one processor with two internal cores. 4. Just buy the Apple Cinema HD 30" monitor. It can't be beat. And the 7800s are the only GPUs that will run with that monitor with SLI supported that I know of. |

Yeah, it is a little expensive, and it's Apple, but it really is the best. Buy your own HDTV and then use this thread to figure out the best way to hook it up.
PC to TV Connections: A Guide Edit: Look around for floor models of plasma TVs for drastically reduced prices. Best Buy is really good when it comes to reselling their showroom models. Last edited by TastyHiHatWork; 07-11-2005 at 06:15 PM. |

2) PCI-e will replace PCI. So that slot is for add-on cards, like sound cards, TV cards, NIC's, controller cards, etc.
It's just that at the present time I've seen only PCI-e graphics cards, but in time all the cards I mentioned will be available for PCI-e, too. RJ

If you are going SLI, there are only eight certified power supplies at this time. Others are advertised as "ready" but they aren't certified. If I'm going to drop a grand on a couple video cards, I'm not gonna quibble over the cost of a power supply.
