Want to build a new gaming rig. Around $1000, though

[FONT=Trebuchet MS]I'm looking to make a computer that will replace my current one to do work, play games, surf the internet, whatever one might do with a computer. I'm a litte new at this but I have done my homework on how this stuff works. I'm a quite a budget with around $1000 for just the guts of the computer though. So I went to newegg.com and built one in my cart. This is what I've got:

MoBo:
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard
$95.00
[I originally wanted to go with AGP but I decided just to go for the PCI-Ex]

Case:
AeroCool JetMaster Jr - BS Black/Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case -
$59.00
[Doesn't it look pretty?]

Optical Drive:
GIGABYTE Black IDE Combo Drive Model GO-B5232A-B - Retail
$28.99
[The most I with this part is play audio CDs, watch DVDs, and burn some CDs]

Cooling Device for HD:
Spire FlowCooler HD05010S1M4 50mm Hard Drive Cooler - Retail
$4.99
[I heard that the HD I got can get mighty toasty. And I've lost a harddrive to toastiness]

HardDrive:
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L250R0 250GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive - OEM
$97.00
[I was orginally going for two 80's. One for backup. But I realized that the most I usually need to back up is really quite small, so I'll just use CDs to backup anything important.]

RAM:
GeIL Value 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model GE1GB3200BDC - Retail
Model #:GE1GB3200BDC
$84.99
[I think that the not-so-popular-brands are just as well off as the ones that are popular]

OS:
Microsoft Windows XP HOME Edition With Service Pack 2 - OEM
Model #:N09-01152
$91.95

PSU:
ASPIRE ATX-AS520W BLACK ATX 520W Power Supply - Retail
$58.00
[Plenty of power to juice up any upgrades.]

Processor:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model
$146.00
[Not too expensive and it seems solid enough]

VideoCard:
Leadtek PX6800GT TDH Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
$288.00
[I've wanted one for quite a while and I don't what to get an ATi. If I do build another, I could SLi two of these right? Otherwise I know that I'll go with this.]

SubTotal: $953.92

Well in range for my budget and I'm quite happy with what I've got. I've already chosen my extra stuff. Headphones, keyboard, mouse, etc. If you've got any suggestions or if you know of anything that could be incompatible, could you please tell me? I really hope that I got everything in there...
Thanks!!

I would go with a SATA hard drive. Newer technology, thinner cable allows better airflow, price is about the same.
That video card is on the SLI certified List . you can check that for motherboards, vid cards and Power Supplies if you decide to go with an SLI setup.

If you want to go SLI - check that your motherboard has 2 16x PCI Express slots. I briefly checked the EPOX website and found a number of different revisions of your motherboard.

Even though you're not using 2 graphics cards immediately, it would make sense to purchase an SLI certified PSU straight away. Find the list at www.slizone.com

At any rate, that Aspire PSU you've chosen is poor quality, and could easily damage your components. It's also not ATX2 spec (24pin connector, which youll need for your board).

Check out the stickied thread at the top of the general hardware forum for a list of quality PSUs.

Wow, I wouldn't even have noticed...

whether the power supply would match up with the Board.. Thanks! People here are good..
Anyway, I think I'll stick with the board I have now, SLi is still a little 'too new' for me. If I do get the chanceto hook two of them up, it'll probably be a very long way from here. But great info though.
So I was looking at the power supplies and motherboards on Newegg and I just can't tell what kind of connector the powersupply or the motherboard is supposed to have.
Also, what is the 12v powersupply? Why would someone need two? Is it for the Cards that need new plugins?
Thanks

Youll need a Power Supply which is marked as ATX2 - they have a 24 pin power connector. Most, if not all, cheap PSUs are not ATX2, so you may as well not consider them! Antec/Enermax are good brands.

I think what you're referring to regarding the 12v thing, is Dual 12v rails. These are not connectors, but it means that these units donate one 12v rail directly to the CPU, the other powers the rest of your components.

This basically gives your CPU a constant good power source, and is therefore a nice thing to have! If you're looking at units that have these, then you're looking in the right place quality-wise!

Just as an example of what you should be looking for, This is an excellent unit!

Alright Thanks...

I'm definitely going to use that one. In fact.. i think my old PSU was an Aspire.. It's already failed twice after our warrenty at the shop fixed it..
Anyway, It's all starting to clear up and i I'm pretty sure that I've got a computer that'll work straight. Thanks agian.
