First build, dumb question, no pins on CPU
I opened my Intel CPU package and find there are no pins. I know it's dumb question but this is my very first build and I will be posting lot more dumb questions like this.
Well back to the question, I notice a metal plate on bottom of the CPU. Do I remove the metal plate with some sharp object before I drop it into the socket. Here are links to my CPU and mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116200 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131503 Also, I notice that there are 3 connectors coming out of the Case fans. Two of them are white connectors, one male and the other female and the third is an orange 3 pin female connector. I can make out where the orage one goes but what I do with the two white ones. Do I just connect them to each other. Please bear with my ignorance. Thanks. Subhash |

If the plate has Intel and numbers on it, that's the heatsink side of the CPU. The CPU should be some sort of plastic container to protect the pins.
The white connectors are probably for daisy chaining to a molex connector from the PSU. Double check any manuals for the case as to how the connectors are to be used.

Yes, the plate has about 5 lines of info, something like this:
Intel ...' 04 Pentium 4 3.000GHZ/..../... .... ... Does this side faces up. The other side is all black and no pins. I checked the case manual, but it doesn't explain. Thanks. Last edited by Subhash; 10-29-2005 at 05:06 PM. |

Well, I figured out. That black thing was just the cover. I was able to remove the cover and now it looked like a cpu. I dropped it into mobo and are now trying to put the heatsink in.
Thanks for the help. Subhash. |

It might be a good idea to take a break and read through the manuals that came with your parts before you go any further so that you don't mess anything up.

What?! You took off the thing with the CPU information on it? Can you see the core itself? If you do, that's NOT supposed to come off. Be very very careful with it. You should not have an exposed core, that cover is there for a reason.
Is this silver thing what you removed? http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data...ssor-front.jpg However, if you removed something and revealed this: http://www.hardwarezone.com/img/data...essor-back.jpg you are in good shape.

OK good! I was worried for a second
(Sorry, I misunderstood you )Yeah, you need to remove that plastic cover. EDIT: Here's the link: http://www.hardwarezone.com/guides/i...index.php?pg=4 That explains how to install the LGA775 CPUs. |
