Frankenstein Machine

Hi Guys,

I have a old pentium III Dell machine that is wayyyy to slow for the family machine.

I was thinking of taking the dvd player, cd rw, and the two hard disc and rebuild a new machine that has better speed (gaming would be fun but not a priority). Not looking for the best machine in the world but fast is nice "My" current machine is a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe with Athlon XP Barton 333 FSB, with 1 gig memory and it's humming along rather nicely.

Budget is always a consideration when you have a family but I would spend a little extra for quality too. Thank you for all your help and advise!!!!

Here's a little combo I've used for my last two builds. A customer has one and the other is sitting here folding 24/7. This mobo uses an ATI chipset with onboard video AND a PCI-e slot for future gaming upgrade. You can use a SATA hard drive or the ones you have too. Couple it with a Sempron 2800+ and a 1Gb kit of Corsair Value Ram. Less than $240 for the package.

And if you want a quality black Antec case with 350watt psu for about $60 including freight, check this out.

Thats what I'm looking for I was thinking of keeping it under $600.00 (I have monitor and keyboard and mouse). But after Panamas post it's looking like I can save a little more money (for beer)

You will also need a new copy of windows since the dell one is tied to the dell machine and can't be used in another one.
