Power Supply Problems..I think
I'm confused. I'm trying to build a pc for my wife. I bought a used
ASrock K7S41GX motherboard. It turns the power supply on at ATX connection, and will not post using an AMD Athlon 2000+ I've read about about the soft power on, wake on lan stuff. This motherboard has a jumper to ignore +5 USB or PS2 Wake. But it doesn't change anything. I've reset CMOS, but still nothing. Even tried a different power supply, and it comes on at ATX connection. What's suspect is..I used both of these power supplies trying to fix another mobo that fried the processor. Is it likely that both power supplies are bad? One is an older 300W..the Second is a brand new 350 with Sata power connectors. BTW, the drives spin up fine, so do all the fans. The only other thing I can figure is, it's just a bad board. Maybe a bad sodder short..any ideas? Oh, one more thing..I used the same board to try and post a AMD Duron 950, same problem... Last edited by kmp6258; 11-25-2005 at 08:44 PM. |

Thanks..but been there
I tried this, still nothing. Actually before I deal with the no post issue,
I'd like to understand why the moterboard turns on the power supply at connection... |

Check the BIOS settings. Some motherboards have an option to automatically turn the PC back on after a power failure. This is used for servers and anything else where someone might not be around to press the button. Perhaps the previous owner enabled this feature. I think it's usually under the boot options.
Also, like Cricket said, we need to know if you're talking about when you connect the ATX power connector to the motherboard or when you plug the power supply into the wall. You proabbly shouldn't plug the ATX connector in with the power supply plugged in and turned on. Delta013 Last edited by delta013; 11-26-2005 at 12:06 PM. |

Either way it happens
I first noticed the problem when I plugged it into the wall. The power supply
comes on without touching the power switch. There are no bent pins, no visible shorts on the board. And after trying it with a third power supply, it still comes on without power switch jumpers even being connected to the board. (nothing connected except power supply & video) And since it will not post, I can't change the bios settings. I've reset the cmos til I'm blue in the face. Changed pin settings on the +5 usb or ps/2 wake..even left the jumper off. I think it's a bad board that got by the manufacturer, and I got stuck with it.

If 3 different power supplies are doing the same thing then the motherboard is probably faulty.
