Suggestions for a budget server
Ok im wanting to build a server for myself so i dont have to pay for hosting fees anymore but not really sure what i will need. Here is what i want it to do not sure if it will all be possible or not cause im clueless about servers.
It needs to host my 2 websites, one is a personal flash portal, I want 15GBs reserved for this. Then the other one is a video uploading/storage site, it will need 60GBs reserved for it. Then if possible I want it to store local files for my 3 PCs, I want 40GBs reserved for this. I would also like to use it as a router if possible. So I would like to go with a 150GB HDD to be safe. That is really about the only thing I know, I would like to keep it under $1,000 if possible. So what should i get as far as the mobo, hdd, cpu, ram, everything else. |

is this only for storage, and editing your web pages or your going to play games and all
basicly if your just going to store things you could get a pc under 400$

Well, how much traffic do you expect to get? Your real cost is not going to be the hardware, but the bandwidth. If you get a lot of traffic, you would need to consider higher performance and more stable equipment.
Dark Nova was right, if you are only storing files, the computer is cheap, but consider the entire scope of what you will be using it for. |

You slowest component is going to be your hard drive. Personally I would start with a 7200 RPM Sata hard drive and if you ever need to upgrade the speed of it, you can do that later (when your website has generated some income).
