Angry Fire HELP! No Power

This is my first real build and it will not power up at all. Ive connected it to many different outlets and nothing in side of the case turns on. You could hear a pin drop its so quiet. Ive even checked to see if maybe one of the motherboard screws were grounding the motherboard, and no luck there. Any suggestions???

Im running:
MSI K8T Master2 Motherboard
Dual AMD Opterons 2.0 GHz
2 GB Corsair RAM
Maxtor 250 GB Hard Drive w/16 MB Buffer

Did you put it together or buy it? Maybe there's something blocking one of the plugs inside the case, causing a ground or block of power.... other than that I'm not sure if you need to assemble it a certain way to make it recognize its getting power or something, <-- never built a PC Is everything connected inside case? are there switches on anything inside? (don't flip em! Just wondering) is your outlet giving enough power to the pc? (I've seen houses w/ low outlet power <-- construction worker) Wellll thats about all I can think of until some one who knows whats up comes along. Good luck mate!

What PSU are you using? Many units have a 110/220V select switch on the back, and a master on/off switch. Make sure that the voltage select switch is set to the right voltage. Also, it may sound silly, but it's common to forget to flip the master switch on the back of the PSU.

The main power switch is set and the proper voltage is set, I have it connected to the motherboard through a 20 pin connector not a 24, could this be my problem? and if so should I buy a 20 to 24 pin adapter or a new PSU?

How do you know what voltage you have to set it at? I'm getting a 600w supply.... vid card uses 450 but I don't know bout the rest of the system?!? arg. Well everything sounds right with your system. It must be somethinggggggg like. Your putting it straight into the outlet and not a surge protector? eek. I'm tryin to think for ya, but I don't know. Are you sure all the parts are getting power? there's a thread in here I was looking at, you could take it apart and lay it out a certain way, .... well I didn't read it, but its around here somewhere. you can find it!!!! Good luck

If you don't have an ATX 2.0 unit with a 24 pin connector, that could be your problem. Either way, I'd replace that ATX 1.x (20 pin) with a quality power supply with a 24 pin connector from Antec, Enermax, Seasonic, or XClio.

Voltage setting depends on where you live...in the US it's 115V and Europe you need 220V.

You should also do this:

There's a switch on the back of the power supply that you can set for the proper voltage for your location.

No video card uses 450 watts just by itself (would probably burst into flames if it did)...a 450 watt power supply is probably recommended so that the video card can run and there'll still be enough power for the rest of the system.

thx blue for that link. It started running out of the case . I have one more question. Is it ok for the motherboard to sit on metal standoffs? I would think the standoffs would ground the motherboard to the case. Every site I look on though says its ok to have the motherboard rest on the metal standoffs.

Yes, it's okay for the motherboard to sit on the metal standoffs...that's what they're made to do.

If the standoffs are installed only in the mounting holes that line up to the mounting holes in the motherboard, all will be fine. If there is a stray standoff that doesn't line up with a motherboard mounting hole, then the motherboard will short/ground out to that standoff.

Yes, it's okay. The standoffs and accompanying screws/bolts are designed to work properly with current motherboards. Don't worry.
