My new build - Any opinions

I'm working on a new build for a computer that I will be using for work as well as for some light gaming and video editing. My budget max is $1500 (which I am currently well within) and I already have my monitor for it. I've done a quick compatibility look over and I think everything will work and so right now I am trying to find all the drivers I need for Windows XP 64-bit edition.

Before I take the next step, though, I was hoping for opinions on this build as it is only my second one and I am still paranoid about buying the right parts. The biggest concern that I have is how the capture card will work with this build; I have never used two video cards in one box and have never used a capture card ever before. I did some research and this one, Hauppauge 150, came up the most and also had some good reviews. I was wondering if having both these cards, the main video card and the capture card, will make it too hot for my case fans to handle and also if anyone here has worked with this capture card or has suggestions for a better one. The reason I want a capture card in this case is so I can watch and record television on the computer.

Case: Antec Solution SLK3000-B Black Steel ATX Mid Tower
PSU: thermaltake W0014RU 480W PSU
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe AMD 939
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 939
Memory: CORSAIR 1GB (2 512's) DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory
Hard Drive: Seagate Baracuda SATA 250GB
DVD/CD: LITE-ON EIDE DVD Burner Combo SOHW-1693S Black
Video: SaphireX800PRO 256MB 256-bit - OEM 100600-Red Radeon
OS: Windows XP Professional 64Bit Edition
Capture: Hauppauge WINTV-PVR-150 PCI

Any opinions for this build would be helpful. For convenience, all links are to NewEgg, though that may not be where I will purchase the parts from.

your video card is not sli compatible
you have to get an nvidia card to be able to go sli
that is the two video cards
also you may want to go a little higher on the processor
the rest of your build seems to be higher end but your processor is one of the lower end athlon 64s
plus you said you are under your budget so why not go with a little more power

You can drop down to the non-SLI version of that motherboard and save some cash.
Hauppage is a pretty good brand for the TV card.
If you have any heat isssues, that case has 2 optional fan locations to blow on the CPU and the card slots.
Running the tv and video cards together shouldn't be a problem.
Power supply is wrong for that system, you need an atx 2.0 with the 24 pin main connector. Take a look at one of these Antec cases with power supplies .
You only need the SLI components to run 2 identical PCI-E x16 video cards together in sli mode, the capture card is a pci card and is unrelated to SLI.
About the only people who will see any benefit from running an SLI setup are the extreme gamers who are worried about getting every possible frame per second in video. For any normal usage, SLI is overkill.

Right, for light/occasional gaming, SLI is a waste of money. And I suggest staying away from the 64-bit version of XP. There is no upside right now, and you are likely to encounter problems with it.

I'm not sure if I should be making a new post for this update or not, but here goes. I posted my first attempt at a parts list a while ago, but I was hoping for another check, if anyone is interested, on my list as it stands now:

Case & power supply: Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 450Watt SmartPower 2.0 ATX 12V V2.0 for AMD & Intel systems Power Supply - Retail
ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail
Memory: CORSAIR 1GB (2 512's) DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory
Hard Drive: Seagate Baracuda SATA 250GB
DVD/CD: LITE-ON EIDE DVD Burner Combo SOHW-1693S Black
Video: SaphireX800PRO 256MB 256-bit - OEM 100600-Red Radeon
Microsoft Windows XP Professional With SP2 - OEM
Capture: Hauppauge WINTV-PVR-150 PCI

I wanted the SLI version of the motherboard so I could upgrade in the future, but now I'm not even sure if the power supply I have now could handle it. I also had my heart set on getting the XP 64-bit version of Windows, but I've had trouble finding drivers for the sapphire video card that'll work, so I'm grudgingly going with the normal version. Any more suggestions on this version of my build? Oh and my budget has changed slightly due to an unexpected car repair; it's now a max budget of $1200.

Also thanks for all the info, especially jayb1234 for the advice on the Antec case combo.

Do you need a specific feature of XP Pro?

Oops...missed that one.

WinXP Pro isn't necessary for a home built computer unless it's part of a large home network and you need the extra networking features it offers. It doesn't perform any better than WinXP Home from a performance stand point.

You don't need an nVidia GPU to use SLI which is only possible with an nVidia motherboard chipset. You can use any GPU with an SLI capable motherboard chipset.

Funny, I don't see any ATi GPUs/video cards listed here.

She probably means you can use any video card with a SLI motherboard (not necessarily running two cards). ie, an ATi card would run on a SLI motherboard, just not two of them together.

Oh...I misunderstood her statement (Gizmo is a lady).

Actually, after reading her statement again I think she is saying you can use any GPU in SLI on a nVidia SLI motherboard (which is not true).

Right. An ATi card will work on a SLI board, you just can't do a dual card set up. That's where Crossfire comes in.
