I'm tryng to build my first pc. I'm having trouble getting the computer booted though. When I boot, the cpu, video card and mobo fans turn on, but I get no display at all on my monitor!
I've assemlbed the mobo, processor, ram and video card outside the case and gotten the same results. I've also reset the CMOS. I'm not getting any beeps or noises at all. All of the components are new. I've also just replaced the power supply because the first one I have didn't have enough juice to power up the system. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be the culprit? AMD Athlon 64 3200 ASUS A8n SLI Delux 1GB Kingston DDR400 (one stick) Chaintech 6600GT Thermatake 500w power supply Thanks, Alissa |

Do you have the square 4 pin power connector plugged in by the CPU?

Yep, I have the 4-pin connector in the mobo. I'm hoping its the video card and not the motherboard. I don't have any spare cards to try right now though. My friend has a PCI cideo card. Will that work the same (just to test) as the PCI-E card?
Thanks again, Alissa |

Yeah, you should at least be able to get video to see if everything else is working.

I've gotten hold of a PCI video card and still have had no luck getting video at boot. Same results as before with the new card. I have 2 identical sticks of ram, and since I've had this problem I've tried using each one by itself with no luck. I'm assuming that the ram is good (what are the chances of both sticks being bad?).
So I guess at this point I've narrowed it down to either the motherboard or processor. Does anyone have any ideas about what it might be or how I can tell which is defective? Thanks in advance, Alissa |

You don't have the motherboard lying on the silvery anti-static bag, do you? The outside of the bag is conductive and will short out the motherboard and prevent the system from booting up.

The ram doesn't have to be "bad" to not work. It can be a mobo/ram compatibility issue too. Do you have access to any other memory? I'd try something other than Kingston just to rule it out. Also, is your power supply a 24 pin or a 20 pin with an adapter?

Your sure about the 4 Pin connector? I made that mistake with the A8N-SLI Board. It is not the four pin connector that creates the (20Pin+4Pin) 24Pin connector from the PSU to the Mobo, it is actually a seperate connector above that and to the left of the CPU. Thanks Blue.. hehe..

I set up the system on top of the box for the motherboard as recommended in this forum. So, I don't think it's a problem of it being shorted out.
The power supply I have is a THERMALTAKE TR2 500W Power Supply ATX12V V2.0, which has a 20+4 pin main connector. I have this connected to the main plug on the motherboard (the big one) and it fits securly. I have the additional 4-pin connector plugged into the plug that's to the left and above the cpu. So I'm pretty sure that's right. I don't have any extra ddr memory to test it with. All I have is older PC100 SRAM. One thing that I'm wondering about is if there is something I didn't plug in relating to the video card. I'm not using a dual video card configuration, so I don't think I need to plug in the EZ Connector for the mobo. I can't for the life of me find any plugs on my video card, so I guess it doesn't need extra power? My power supply has a PCI Express connector (6-pin). Does that need to be plugged in somewhere? If so, where? |

I don't think the EZ plug needs to be plugged in unless you are lacking a 24 pin power supply. If there's no plug on the back of the video card (opposite DVI/VGA ports), then there's nothing to plug in there.

Same Problem.
I have the same motherboard and processor as you with a noisetaker 600 watt power supply and 512 mb of ram and im having the exact same problem as you, and have tried all possible solutions. I know my video card is good because it works in another pc but i have no way to test my processor because i dont have another 939 motherboard that will take it. if i figure it out, i will let you know

You guys should start your own threads if you're having problems (if you already haven't done so). You'll get better help that way.

if you got a graphics chip on your motherboard, and then you placed one line a ATI graphics board then you may have the problem where the Graphics board is canceling out the graphics chip. but the computer dosent know what the ATI board is. try removing it. then the chip on your computer can run.
Just an idea ^^

Alissa, did you plug in the Splitter for additional power supply? That might be it, try not to use the PCI express power connector from the power spply instead use the provided splitter, thank turn on the computer. might be that.
