why doesnt my monitor turn on!!!!!!

this was my first build and i was so sure i did it correctly but i didnt...
i have
Motherboard - ASUS Proactive ai Series A8N-SLI Deluxe
Hard Drive - Seagate 160gig
Video Card - VGA EVGA GF 6800GT (pci-express)
CPU - AMD 64 Athlon 3200
monitor - samsung 19

ok they're all brand new so there was no hardware problems. i put it all together and everything in the inside seems to be working (all lights are on and all fans are running). however the monitor is always on idle...like as if the computer is off. i think something is up with the graphics card since it had to have a small adapter for me to connect the monitor. this is really frustrating. please help me. thank you

Does the motherboard have intergrated graphics? If so you might need to disable the hardware/enable the new card.
