Need guidance
The other day my brother's pc died. Well it would not power on. The fans would spin for a little and then turn off. You would hear the power supply noise fluctuating on and off before it turns off which leads me to believe that the power supply is dead. I don't see the green light on the mobo turning on. Could that mean the motherboard is dead too? Or is that because my power supply is most likely dead?
My motherboard does not use the 4 pin molex conecter it just uses the 24 pin connector. The motherboard model is "ASRock K7VT6 RAID Socket A (Socket 462) VIA KT600 ATX AMD" Does anyone have any incite on what happened? Is it really the PSU? |

It's a generic 400 watt that came with this case.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811164004 Heheh. I know I should have gotten him another PSU but he was on a REAL tight budget. The thing is. His PSU started acting up after I put in his new x700 pro agp video card. After I installed it all this happened. It booted up once but he had to restart the next morning and now I am in this dilemna. I even tried his old video card (9600 pro) which did not require connecting to the PSU and it still doesn't work. I am thinking the new card just blew out the PSU or something. Thanks for your help guys. |

I'd get that power supply replaced ASAP, even if it isn't to fault right now, he'll be way better off in the long run. What are the full specs of this rig? You might look at Sparkle power supplies.

It does sound like a bad power supply. The one that came with that case has to be pretty cheap to get the case and power supply for that price. Adding the new video card was likely more than it could take. While they say it is rated at 400 W, most generic PSUs don't put out anywhere near what they are rated for.
