New Build and Hard Drive help
If i build a new comp and use my old hard drive from my last comp, will it work. I mean if it has Windows XP on it.

Can someone help? I was planning on taking it from this comp im using now(storebought). I plan on placing it in the comp im building. Would it work? And would the Windows XP on it work?

The drive will work but it will have to be formatted. XP won't work with the new hardware changes.

Nope, the manufacturers load of XP is tied to the original machine and can't be used on another one. You will have to get a new copy.

You could try to do a repair install, but most likely you'll have to nuke and pave as mentioned above. Be sure to backup all he data you want to save before your format or it will be gone.

Is the old computer a custom build or an off the shelf computer (ie, Dell)?

OK, as jayb said, you'll have to get a new copy, as those copies are usually tied to that particular PC.

k. Ill just buy a hdd with a copy of Windows XP fron newegg for about 85$
