Slammin later compaired to anything now will take a new form factor... You can go from good to really nice. But if yur slammin now then chances are to be amazed later you will need to up the motherboard.

Just a few video cards will actualy do that and only on select games. The game makers are now so advanced (if thats what we call it) that it takes a year to make a rig that will play it.

This looks like a good card for you... $299 7800GT build a quality system around that and it will play most games like MAX.

There's no such thing as "top-of-the-line but not too expensive..." Top-of-the-line parts will cost you and cost you plenty. A top-of-the-line gaming rig could easily cost you over $3000.

What's your budget? Once we know just how much you can spend then we can help you spec out a good gaming rig that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

What kind of budget do you have? We can't suggest parts if we don't know how much you can spend.

You gotta give us a number...something to work with.

To me, cheap means one thing...to someone else it'll mean something different. I might think a $400 computer is "cheap" while another person might think a $800 computer is "cheap". We need a number.

And could you stop using abbreviations please. This is a bulletin board/forum, not instand messaging.

$1000? $1500?...a so-so budget could be more or less, depending on the person.

You can search "$1000 gaming rig" on the forums and come up with a number of $1000 gaming rigs.

I'd get a LITE-ON DVD-Burner, since it comes with Nero and PowerDVD

Remember to NOT use the power supply in the case. Switch to the regular Truepower II 550 - not the EPS12V (server) one, since the non-server one has a 120mm fan which should be quieter.

OK, why don't you upgrade to the 640 for a CPU ($25 more), and switch to non-XMS RAM, and get DDR2 533 RAM (it's cheaper than DDR400 these days), and a motherboard to support it...such as this:

Intel 640
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116197
Corsair ValueSelect (2 x 1GB) (240 pin, DDR2 533)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145527
ASUS P5GD2-X Socket T (LGA 775) Intel 915P ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131542

EDIT: Please use the edit button next time...

That mobo you posted won't work. It's a S478 type, and you have a LGA775 socket type.

Here's my AMD recommendation:

ASUS A8N-E
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3800BPBOX - Retail
Antec TRUEPOWERII TPII-550 550W Power Supply - Retail
eVGA 256-P2-N525-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model VS2GBKIT400C3 - Retail
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
LITE-ON Black IDE DVD Burner Model SOHW-1693S Black - Retail
NEC Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive
Microsoft Windows XP HOME Edition With Service Pack 2 - OEM

not sure how that racks up price wise against the Intel build...it's $1400, minus case.

Could cut back on the CPU and video card to slash costs.

I have an AMD and it works great for games, but if you get one, get a 64 for sure because the other ones are slower.

How about this one?

From now, please use the edit button.

My AMD build? Yeah, that should play any game full settings very smoothly.
