Exclamation Interesting PC Problem..

I had ordered a bunch of a new parts and assembled everything correctly for my computer. However, when I boot up, it doesn't go past the POST screen. I have to go into which boot device I'd like to boot up from first and most of the time it doesn't boot correctly...it says something along the lines of "DISK FAILURE. PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK" I have to insert my Windows XP CD each time I restart or boot up which is a pain in the @$$! Any suggestions? Could it be a faulty motherboard or part because I recently installed the same exact motherboard and everything on my girlfriends computer and everything is clear sailing for her..

Did you use a harddrive from another pc in your new build? Did you follow the "out of the box" build instructions? Follow the instructions in this thread first. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 Also posting your complete list of parts for the build will also help diagnose your problem.

Swap hard drives with a known good one. That one seems to be faulty.

This is a Biostar Motherboard with a 2.93 GHz Intel Celeron...my hard drive is a Western Digital...I did reformat everything so there's nothing on this hard drive that could affect the working status...in my BIOS, I had set it up so it will boot from the hard drive first..then CD and then floppy.

Maybe I'm confused but here's what I'd do. Change the boot order so the CD is before the hard drive. Save and exit the bios with the XP cd in the drive. When it says press any key to boot from CD, do so. If it offers a repair/recovery option, don't use it select new installation. Next if it finds an already installed operating system, do NOT select repair. Select new installation. When it shows you the existing C: partition, delete that partition and any other partitions until you have one "unpartitioned space". Now chose to install XP on this space and format in NTFS. This assumes you have a legal copy of XP not previously used on another machine.
