Upgrade or Build new

this is my setup:

Abit IC7-G
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz HT
512 Kingston PC2700
Saphire RADEON 128MB
200GB 7200 + 40GB 7200

and im wanting to play some of the newer games. Particularly quake 4, right now when i play q4 everything is green (ive read this is because i have a vid card that below the min standards for q4).

Should i just upgrade my vid card and get more ram or just completly get a new rig?

How Old is AGP? I know that PCI-E cards are faster and im wondering if i should just start anew with a new pci-e mobo.

Anyone know a good deal on a AGP 8x vid card that can play Q4?

You rig isn't that old. I would install a Radeon 9800 Pro and add another 512MB of RAM.

An upgrade in the video department might require a power supply upgrade. What kind of power supply do you have? (brand and wattage)

just wondering why the 9800 pro?

why not one of the ATI Radeon X series video cards or nVIDIA GeForce 6600?

because this card
Radeon X700 Pro Video Card (256MB, AGP 8X, DVI) ATI Radeon X700 Pro Video Card
or this card
nVIDIA GeForce 6600
costs just as much as the 9800 on pricegrabber...

the x700 will work fine. You will definitley need more RAM. I used the x700 in my fiance's system. Plays q4 and doom 3 on medium settings with zero problems. 2422 on 3dmark05, which is on the low side due to the bottleneck on the mobo (4X/1X AGP).

420 watts is the peak output on the PSU. This isn't continuous power which is an important thing to note when looking for a new PSU. Depeniding on the brand of PSU I would say you would be ok unless you really want to buy a new one. A 450 watt would be great and add some longevity to the system.
