Unhappy Ive put together my computer and it wont power on

I have just purchased new parts for my computer..

Fatal1ty AN8 SLI motherboard
eVGA e-GeForce 7800 GTX
Thermatalke W0057RUC PurePower 500W
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Patriot PDC1G3200LLK 2GB Kit DDR400
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6L200S0 200GB Serial ATA
and the standard cd rom drives..

i put it all together last night, and i have put together many pc's before, so i know what i am doing.

however when i went to turn it on, it has no power, all that happens is the power supply makes a clicking sound, and the lights on the fans and motherboard flash on and off...
i have tried using another power supply to see if it was a faulty power supply, but that one did the same thing.

i have all the connectors from the power supply to the motherboard attached, including the ATX power, ATX 12V power, and the ATX 4 pin connector.

can somone please infer what the problem might be? because i have tried so many things and cannot figure anything out...

Try this:

You are trying to see if the motherboard is shorting out with the case. If it works out of the case, you've probably got a stray stand off in the case.

Wait, is the motherboard still in the case? If so, your core components appear to be fine.

CRASH One component at a time.

Not everything at once. Start with a listing of your BIOS' beep codes, add one stick of RAM, see what beeps you get. Add a known good VGA, and with the MB, PSU, HSF and CPU, you should be able to get into the Setup at least. Add one component at a time. After getting into the BIOS with an older, spare VGA card, then try the new one.

Continue in that manner and something will suddenly send the system back over the cliff. Whatever that something is, if you have a second PC, you can check to see if it's a bad component, or is simply incompatible with the other parts, such as a brand and type of RAM that your MB doesn't like.

dma (its direct memory access used to skip the cpu) is controlled by jumpers or those little swith looking things (they are usually black with red switches)
you should check your manual and see what their default settings are supposed to be
you may have bumped them when removing and adding stuff
