Which of these is most silent psu?
i have these choises at my local parts shop
Antec Power Supply SL350W - Blue = € 53 Enermax EG365AX-VE-G-FMA 350w PSU = € 59 and i found this on a local online shop ANTEC SmartPower2.0 350 Watt = 62,50 is this the same as the first one? its going to replace the old psu for an abit kd-7, athlon 1800+, radon 7000, 1 maxtor HD, 1 cdrw drive. I already fitted the cpu with a new zalman cooler that is very silent, and i'm going to replace the chipset cooler with a passive cooler (also zalman) the case is a chieftec dragon midi. it's already quite silent, i can only hear the current (original) psu and the chipset cooler (that's why i want to replace them).

I have an Antec Truepower II and it is very quiet. Quieter than the Smartpower.

I don't remember the name of it or where you can find it, but i remember seeing an ad for a powersupply that had no fans just heatsinks and a heatpipe to the back or something. I think i saw this about a year ago in Maximum PC and i think it said it was coming soon, if i remember correctly it was an antec powersupply.

The truepower series and then Antec phantom (I believe that's it's name) are going to cost at least 50% - 80% more than the PSU options he's chosen.
I've used the SmartBlue before and it is realtively quiet. There are two versions of that 350 W PSU. There is the SmartBlue and the SmartPower with the only difference being two blue LEDs in the PSU.

Thank you for the info, i've checked prices for those truepower psu's and they start at 100€ . that more than i want to spend on this older machine.
I think i'll go for the first one then, i'd rather not have blue leds but that one is 10 bucks cheaper and i can get it at a very nearby shop i use it as "internet pc" and its hooked up to my home stereo, i want to have it silent because it's on from when i get home from work untill i go to sleep. |

I'd get the Enermax as they have a good reputation for making very quiet power supplies.

I think that the truepower series is a bit quieter, especially since the updated series only has a single fan (12cm) and it's damped due to the fact that it's relatively far away from the side of the PSU that's poking out of the case.
BUT, for its price, the smartpower series is decently quiet. You might want to search for some reviews on that enermax PSU to see if it's as quiet. In retail, truepowers are $120 around here. A few weeks ago there were rebates available, which brought it down quite a bit. Online, they're a little bit cheaper, but still in the $80-$100 range from what I've seen. |
