Very Strange Problem
OK, I just built my first gaming pc, and it has been running fine for months now, but heres the deal. Sometimes when I'm just like using firefox or listening to music, no game or videos or anything, I lose video, and my moniter acts like the vga cable is not connected (which it is) and the lights on my keyboard begin to flash on and off as if it is demon possessed. But my computer is still running fine. Tonight it did this again... but I couldn't get the video to come back on. I stopped to think what all I have changed recently but the only thing I could think of was my new surge protector. I plugged my computer and moniter directly into the wall, and it is working fine... or atleast long enough for me to post this. Please help!

I never heard of that brand of power supply before...do you have another compatible one you can swap in to test with?

It sounds as though you have solved your problem with the surge protector.
Try using that Surge Protector to power something else. |

To Cricket.
Oh yeah about that, that was a severe typo lol, I have a 450w Biostar Psu. And I have no clue where echostar came from ![]() EDIT: Ok... I just switched everything back onto another surge protector and everything is working fine again... but I still have no clue what the heck all that was about. Might be the PSU, could be a loose wire or card not fully seated. Check that the CPU heatsink is fully seated too. Check for dust buildup in the case, especially on the heatsink fins. If it's real dusty, get a can of air and blow it out.

I am responding to this only because I had a somewhat similiar problem a while back. While I am no expert I merely offer this:
My cable modem used to shut down everytime my House's water pump kicked on, it ended up being a loose neutral cable outside in the meter box. So, just a suggestion, if you continue experiencing these issues while it is plugged straight into the wall, perhaps you should call the utilities company to come out and inspect, for this could cause some major damage to all household electronics. Peace. |

Alright... this is making me mad, It worked for a while plugged directly into the wall. Then I switched it back over to a different surge protector. It worked for a while, and then it did it again. I couldnt get the video to come back on this time (I still dont know why it is only affecting my moniter video and keyboard and leaving my computer running). At this point I gave up and went to bed. This morning I turned on the computer and it worked fine... long enough for me to post this. I have no clue what is going on.

you could take your computer to another house and test it for a day or two to see if it works fine.
