after swapping the hard drive on my computer (something i've done quite often) the power-on button no longer works, neither do any monitors i try to plug into. the computer is very up to date.
everything starts as usual, except the numlock light on the keyboard doesn't come on, the front power button on the case doesn't work (i can only turn on and off with the switch on the back of the power supply, and i get no video and no sign that the computer boots. the light on the front of the case next to the symbol of the cylinder stays lit but there is no activity from other lights when starting. when i hold the power button and switch on the comp from the power supply, the computer will turn off, yet the green light next to the "lightbulb" symbol stays on, something which i do not believe it ever did. is my motherboard toast? please help! thanks! |

Go back in the case and check that all the connectors and cards are seated correctly. Something might have came loose while you changed the drive.

You can try the out of case procedure in this thread to determine whether the problem is in one of the core components.
You could put the old hard drive back in and see if the problem is still happening. You could try the new hard drive in another computer to see if it works there.

a bit fat nothin'. no change what so ever. i did notice that if i plug in the keyboard while its starting, the keyboard lights will light up, then turn off. i've tried two different hard drives. and i've tried it all torn apart with only the suggested things connected. i still can't imagine why it would just do this all of a sudden. the display does work, as i've tested it with a laptop.

Please post the complete specs of this computer including the brand of the power supply.
Do you have spare parts you can swap in to test with? Cricket
