How does this sound

Hi everyone, this is my first post. First off, thank you to everyone for sharing their knowledge. I have learned much by reading the threads here.
I would like your opinions on my first attempt at building a computer. I am not a gamer. My present computer is a Dell dimension 400mhz, maxed out sd ram at 356mb, 13G Hdd, Diamond viper video card, sound blaster sound card, and running windows 98 se. I do some photo editing using Paintshop pro and Photoshop elements. Mostly I just surf the web. Obviously I do not upgrade very often, so I want to build a system that can last a while. Here is what I was thinking of building:

Asus P5gd2-x mother board
P4 630 Prescott cpu
Antec Lifestyle SonataII case / 450w Smartpower 2.0 psu
Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250gb hdd
Lite-on ide dvd burner Sohw-1693s
Lite-on ide dvd drive sohd 16p9sv
Corsair valueselect 2x152 ddr2 533(pc2 4200) memory
Nec fdd
Leadek PX6600gt TDH 128mb pci express x16 video card
Sound blaster Live sound card
Windows xp pro/sp2

Thats it, am I on the right track? Its sounds like a nice system that should last me awhile. One thing that I have concerns with is the case/power supply. Can I do better?

Thanks to all, Ray

A few things...the Sonata II case, although very nice, doesn't meet Intel's case thermal design for use with P4 Prescott processors. Intels recommends a case with a port on the side of the case directly above the heatsink for better cooling of the P4 Prescott processor. It's really a minor thing but something you might want to think about.

Don't get the Lite-On DVD player...they're really noisy. Get a Sony or LG instead.

Try the on-board sound before you buy a sound card. Most on-board sound sounds pretty good nowadays...and they're most advanced than a SoundBlaster Live!

A unless you need the extra networking capabilities of WinXP Pro, WinXP Home would be a better choice for a stand alone computer. And WinXP Pro does not perform any better than WinXP Home...it just has more networking features.

The rest of the parts look good...you're getting two 512MB sticks of RAM right?

cricket, thanks, yes 2 sticks of ram. I just read another thread on cases talking about the thermal issue, where I followed a link to Intels web site's list of approved, tested cases. I'll have to do more research. I was hoping to find a case/psu combo from antec since they seem to come with quality psu's. I will drop the Sound blaster. How about the dvd burner? any better options I should think about?

Lite-On DVD burners are very good for the price. All the DVD burners I've installed have been Lite-Ons and none of them has given any of the owners any problems yet.
