Angry Fire New Build Display Help

First off hi everyone:

I have built computers in the past but have been away for awhile so yes I know I need to do a little catch up. So I am Building a new system for my brother who is in college. Order all the parts from newegg (of course) received everything in the mail yesterday put everything together and ran into a little problem I hope someone may be able to help me with.

SPecs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ socket 939
MEM: Corsair Value Select DDR 400 2X 512Mb.
PSU: ThermalTake 430 w
HDD: x2 SATA Western Digital 80gb (7200 rpm, 8mb cache)
VIDEO: LeadTek PX6600TD Pci Express 256 Mb
MOBO: ASUS A8N5X nF4 R

Problem:

Hooked everything up as usaul turn it on everything seems to power up fans HDD's but I get no video. I unplugged the power supply pulled out the card thinking maybe didn't insert it properly or all the way. Power up again no video. So to make a long story short I ended up trying three other PCI Express videos cards with same result. I then proceed to test the same 3 video cards with the MOBO on a non conductive surface since I figured the case may have been grounding the MOBO. Sames Result . I then did the same test unplugging everything except the bare essentials same thing. Checked the manual with MOBO and the rams is compatible. I am no in RMA with newegg to replace the MOBO because I think the PCI express 16 slot in defective.

Anyone have any problems of this sort or any suggestions. I fear that when I get the mobo back from newegg that I will have the same problem for some reason. Is my PSU maybe not up to the task? NE1 have any problems with no video because of defective RAM?

Basically want to narrow do my potential areas of error before I get the replacement MOBO back from newegg to find that I am having the same problem I had before going through the whole processes of getting a replacement.

Thanks in advance.

from your description it sounds like you were assembling right. Do you have another computer lying around you can test parts with? Its not unheard of to get a mobo DOA from the manufacturer. It could also be the video card. Putting RAM in the wrong dimms won't really effect anything unless you have a dual channel supported board. Looking at the model is seems you do have a dual channel board. Ram in the wrong dimms just won't run in dual channel. Your should still see the full ram count in the post. If a PSU was trying to push components past its ability, or it was inferior quality, it would run for awhile then blow out. Thermaltake make pretty good PSU's and your components are usage heavy so I doubt its the PSU. Have zero experience with leadtek but the problem seems isolated to the board or the card.

Unfortunately I have no other boards lying around to test with just have my laptop. But all three of the video cards I have tested on the mobo are brand new so I figure they should all be functional I thinking it would be highly unlikely that they could all be blow out. In regards to the memory yes it is dual channel and I re-read the mobo manual that I photocopied before sending back and yes I did put them in the correct dimms. Is there anyway with great certainty to tell if the cpu is fried or possibly defective? Also if the ram that I was putting in is blow would that cause no video on the screen in essence starting the system up with no ram?

Thanks again for the help.

Those are possibilities; however, RAM and processors fail alot less regularly than mobo's. Corsair is an especially high quality memory manufacturer. I went through 2 defective mobo's on my current system. Both were abit boards which are high quality. I would say get the mobo RMA'd and when the new one comes in try the setup. If problems occur at this point then you might need to test the ram and processor. Remember to clean off the heatsink compound before re-installing the processor.

I justed wanted to pipe in that I had the exact same problem with my build (see the thread here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=146483). Eventually I decided that it was most likely the mobo. Even if another component was bad, wouln't I get some sort of error? Anyway, I RMA'd my mobo and am waiting to get it back to see if I get the same problem with a new mobo.
