Don't get two 6800GT's - get one 7800GTX. It's going to outperform the dual 6800GT's any day. Take some of the leftover money and upgrade the CPU to a 3700+ or 3800+
Take the Corsair Value Select, you probably won't even notice the difference between it and the XMS RAM. You probably won't need such a fancy optical drive...A basic LITE-ON DVD-burner should save you some money.

So, two 6800's in SLI still can't match a 7800? How much does SLI really take advantage of two cards?
Thanks. |

Well if you get one 7800GTX now, you could add a second a year from now.

Is there a preferred brand for the 7800? |

As far as processors go, is the 3500 Venice a little weak?
How about these: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103529 http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103539 The 3700 San Diego is only about 30 bucks more than the 3500 Venice. Add another 100 bucks for the 4000 San Diego...

I strongly doubt you will see any performance difference between a 3700+ and a 4000+ San Diego. Use the $100 to buy Q4 and HL2

The whole point of SLI is not to buy two expensive GPU's and hope they outperform the next generation of cards; instead, it's ment to be more practical to buy one new card now. Then when they games start demanding more graphics wise, in a couple of years you can stick another card in there for a much lower price and give it a good boost.
A 7800GT or GTX will be great for a first card. |

Ok, I've edited the CPU, and the Video Card. The vid card is already ordered via Tigerdirect-EVGA 7800GTX KO.
I'm debating on whether I should wait for the A8N32 board to become available, or get the Deluxe...or Premium.....grrrr..... I could always wait for the A8N32 to come down in price. |

With regard to your motherboard choices, you might want to look at this article at tomshardware.com
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/08/...he_crossroads/ They compared the overall performance of "budget" and "premium" mobos from the same manufacturer, and found essentially no difference. So unless one of those more expensive boards you are looking at has specfic features that you need, it's unlikely the price premium will be worth it. |
