I'd avoid that power supply...they haven't had a good record. Look at a brand such as Antec, Enermax or Seasonic.
You could stick with Value Select RAM, you won't see much difference between it and the XMS RAM. Any particular reason you have a 3-pack OS? You only need one copy. LITE-ON DVD-burners come with Nero, NECs don't. Doesn't the case come with fans?

I have the 3-pack for other computers (I apologize that I didn't specify that in my first post).
Yeah, the case does come with fans (3 80mm.)! Oops. Do you think that this will all fry my computer? I am trying to build, as aforementioned, an excellent gaming and recreational computer that can handle, for example, Half-Life 2 (I am not a Doom 3 or BF2 Fan: Half-Life all the way!) on the highest settings with no problem. Any other suggestions? |

If all ur playin is Half Life 2 i would lower some parts. Half Life 2 isn't as demanding as BF2 or other games so you could easily max out on a lower end system. Just a thought to keep in mind.

I think if you get an Antec Truepower II ($90) and drop to ValueSelect, you should be able to fit a 7800GTX into the mix. That should be even better.

I also plan on playing some of the lower-end strategy games, such as AOE III and Rome: Total War. I will also be doing some pretty intense Photoshop work.

The system in my sig easily maxes out all of those games...I'm not trying to convince you into or out of anything. I am simply making you consider your options.

Actually, I take that back - I do want to get BF2! Will this be able to handle that?
Overall, do you like this idea for a build? Is everything compatible? If so, I will wait until I get some X-mas money, purchase the components, and let the building begin! My first serious build! |
