Question Help - My Computer Randomly Restarts

Hello Everyone,

I have had this probelm for along time now and i just been pushing it aside and breathing everytime it randomly decides it wants to restart. well i've had it enough is enough. i am hoping someone out there can help me with this issue please.

here are my specs..

Gateway, P4 2.26GHz
1.00 GB of Ram

However when i bought my computer i had 256mb of ram. i updated slot #2 to occupy a [ AllComponents 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 266 (PC 2100) Unbuffered System Memory ] and after a couple months of having it on these random restarts started happening. i have recently taken out that 256mb of ram stick and replaced it with a [ Crucial 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 266 (PC 2100) System Memory ], so now i have the 1.00Gb of ram.. i have also changed the power supply to [ 450W Antec SmartPower ]

please guys. help me on this i'm not a computer genius, but if you give me directions i can follow.. thank you guys for your time i hope you guys can help me fix this probelm..

Thank you for your time guys.. if you need any more Spec info please just let me know..

If you're running XP, you need to turn off the Auto Restart feature. This will allow it to go to a blue screen with an error message. Post the entire message back here so we can see where it leads. To turn off the Auto Restart - Start>right click My Computer>properties>Advanced tab>Settings button under Start Up and Recovery>uncheck the Auto Restart.

Are you testing one stick of RAM at a time?

Take a look at the motherboard and see if any of the capacitors are bulging or leaking.

If it will run with two, test together. If it won't run with two, take one out and test. If you get no errors, swap them and test the second stick. If neither shows errors, it may be that they are not compatible when used together.

Do you still have the original 256 stick to try? See if it will run.
