Help pls

Basically I decided to upgrade my PC and bought a AMD 64 X2 4400, ATi X1800 XT 512 MB graphics card and a BFG RNF4U PCI- Express motherboard.

I installed everything to find that the motherboard decided it wasn't a non-twat to fit with my Zalman PSU i.e. the BFG is a 24 pin motherboard and the Zalman PSU only a 20. I thought that it'd still work to tried it anyway, leaving a few pins 'open', and nothing worked. I went out and bought a new PSU and plugged that in. When I fire up the PC I get a long beep and pause, which keeps repeating. I have looked at Phoenix BIOS beeps and this doesn't seem to exist... The monitor does not come on to even display the BIOS.

However, when I pullout the 4 pin power plug (near the processor) and fire it up the beeping is gone. The monitor still does nothing and the rear end of the graphics card (next to its power) has two red lights that illuminate, whcih I assume to mean there is a power problem. The beeping stays with the RAM, HDDs and CD ROMs removed

So I am not sure if I have fudged the motherboard with putting a non-compatible PSU in it or I have a graphics card problem.

Removing the 4 pin plug prevents the CPU from booting up, so you won't get any beeps if the CPU isn't running. What RAM is this?

Did the motherboard's website list the CPU as compatible?

Just wondering, but will it boot up with the old hardware - that will give us an indication if the CPU is compatible or not.

What? The CPU is an AMD which works with this motherboard. Bearing in mind I am asking about slightly more technical things like rare BIOS beeps we can presume that I can match a CPU to a motherboard.

Are you sure that particular motherboard supports the new Dual Core Athlon 64s. The continuous long beep...pause...long beep...pause on some motherboards indicates a non-supported CPU is installed. The BFG web site doesn't have a supported CPU list for that motherboard but the motherboard specifications does not list the Athlon 64 X2 in the CPU section.
