I *believe* that the Intel Pentium 4's have the prescott core. You might want to wait for someone else to confirm that.

Did you buy the processor online from newegg or another site? If so, could you post the link to the processor you bought?

Cool Socket 775 = Prescott

AFAIK, no Northwood P4's are in the new pinless socket, all are in the older 478, like the late version Williamettes.

We need to know what socket type it is. If it has Hyperthreading, it is probably Prescott (there were some older Northwood Hyperthreaders though), *but* the P4 Prescotts come on two different types of socket types. Either the Socket 478 or LGA775.

The P4P800 is an excellent board, it is socket 478, so if that's what your CPU is, then use that. Otherwise, if it's the LGA775 socket type you'll have to look at a different board.

Post up the number from on the box and we can tell you better what it is. Northwoods are pretty scarce right now but as Kiwi says no Northwoods were made for the 775 socket mobo's. If your cpu is listed as 775 socket, then you can bet it's a Prescott core.

Not true Blue. The 800fsb Northwoods were all Hyper threading too.

Not all Prescotts have Hyperthreading.

Ahh, I was thinking there were some Hyperthreading Northwoods. But, I don't think they are sold anymore.

How much L2 cache does that 3.0GHz P4 have? If it's 1MB, it's a Prescott. If it's 512kb, it's a Northwood.

It's a Socket 478 P4 right? Not a Socket T (LGA775).

Hold on folks. That mobo is a 478 socket. It will support ANY P4/Celeron or Celeron D. That means a Northwood core or a Prescott core will work but it must be a 478 socket cpu.

OK, so if it's a Socket 478 CPU, the P4P800 is a good choice.

That CPU will work fine in that motherboard. The ASUS P4P800SE is a good motherboard...but, I suggest you don't use the USB headers for front USB hook ups. Hot synching USB devices into the front USB ports that are hooked up to the USB headers have been known to blow the southbridge on the P4P800 motherboards.

That memory is fine. It'll work with your setup.

If you post the rest of the parts you plan on using, someone can check whether they are compatible with the rest of the system.
