Nvidia problems?

My sweet little build was working A-OK then I pulled the DVD-RW to use to load another new build computer (845 pro4) and returned it to my system. My Liteon-1693s is only a month old and was working fine before.

Now it will not play DVDs. (unsupported format) It starts than stops.
Audio CDs "play" (I can see it playing in media player) but there is no sound.
It reads data CDs fine, and the CD/DVD shows in "my computer".
No problems in device manager.

I can not restore to any previous restore points. (That would be too easy wouldn't it?)

I tied to reload Liteon firmware (http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English...odel=SHOW-1693S)
but every link I clicked on just refreshed the page.

My Nmixer does not start because it does not detect Nvidia nforce hardware on my system.
The NVmonitor says system does not have bios support to launch Nvmonitor.

I reloaded (repair) Nvidia drivers, but nothing changed.

You could try uninstalling the DVDRW in Device Manager and reboot. Windows should reinstall it.

Thanks, I forgot that.
But that didn't do it

I pulled all the cables and checked pins and jumpers too.
Even tried using the other MB IDE connector.

I reset CMOS and readjusted bios, and then it got exciting.
Windows would not boot.
So I did an R reinstall with FIXBOOT. All better again.

I used my MSI live monitor (updates) to check drivers and loaded the realtec 97 , nv nforce system driver. I saw there was a bios update too (but I am not ready for that yet...lol)

But it plays CDs now, sees the dvd in my computer, and plays dvds in media player ok.

for some reason they just hang in powerdvd even after removing and reloading it. same thing with asusdvd too.
Neither of my DVD copy programs see the DVD burner.
hmmmmmmmm

still can't reload the liteon firmware, course, it was originally loaded.

Uninstall the Nvidia IDE controller driver....

Install or roll-back the windows standard dual-channel IDE controller....you'll be much happier....

The nVidia IDE controller drivers are known to cause issues....Never install them....The chipset drivers are fine...

I didn't know that. Sounds like a good fix.

Where can I find the IDE controller drivers to uninstall them?
I looked in add/remove and found
nvidia drivers
nvidia wdm drivers
nvidia forceware network access drivers

Uninstalling the nvidia drivers automnatically defaults to the old chipset drivers, right?

I was able to download the firmware, but it still reads the old version in my burning software.

Well...

In the "device manager" under IDE controller...you can "roll-back" the driver to the windows driver as long as when you installed the nvidia driver and did not update it from there....

If you haven't updated the driver...roll it back...

If you have...just un-install and re-install the windows standard dual IDE controller driver... I am not sure exactly which forum it was posted in but...

If you use the search box at the upper right top corner and search for install standard controller you'll find it...
I think it's in the motherboard section...?

Maxrat,

The problem indeed was the Nvidia IDE drivers.

I deleted them thru ADD/REMOVE.

Everything works great now !!

Mega-kudos to you sir, you are my hero!!

just make sure the only part you removed was the IDE driver....If you went to add/remove programs and uninstalled the whole nVidia driver suit....re-install everything BUT the IDE driver....You need the chipset drivers...

There will be check boxes on what you want to install....

Yes, thank you.
I was surprized to see that choice.
I only deleted the Nvidia drivers.
