Help with new build

Put together a new system last week. Here are the "relevant" details:

p4-3.6
asus P5LD2 Deluxe m-bd
2gb Corsair DDR2
BFG 7800GTX OC
600W Power supply
Thermaltake bigwater SE cooling system
300Gb Seagate SATA

I got the board to post and installed windows and all updates including DX9. I installed the video card drivers and the monitor goes black and I get freezing of the graphics (windows hang, menus lag, etc.). I checked the TM and the processor is spiking every three seconds or so. I downloaded the latest bios from asus and flashed it. I uninstalled (w/detonator destroyer) and installed SIX different n-vidia drivers. I even wiped and re-installed windows with no success. I have spent two hours on tech support with both asus and bfg with no luck. Both of them point fingers at the other.

Obviously, I am devastated after spending over 2K for the components. I am confident that it is something simple that I am overlooking. Any help would be appreciated as the best Christamas present I cold hope for!!!

That is one very high end rig you have there. What brand is that PSU? Is this setup overclocked?

It's a coolmax PSU. No, it's not overclocked. It will be once I get the graphics glitch figured out. I think I'm going to take the card out and try it in another system first. I am also going to run memtest on the RAM tonight.

It's the best I can do at this point. I will try taking the components out and assembling them as recommended in the above thread.

ya a memtest is a good idea, you can find it here: memtest.org, but try removing someram first to see if thats the problem, if it dosent work switch the ram with the ones you just remove

i dont recomend OC your stuff, reasons: there is no garanty that it will work (it could screw up things), and once you OC'ed the garanty for the store is gone. so if it dosent work, your screwd

With the system that I've built, I shouldn't have to worry about OC'ing anything! Depending upon the results of swapping the graphics card with another system, I may try the asus geforce 7800 gtx oc. maybe there is a compatibility issue with BFG's card that they are not willing to admit to me. I'm sorry to say but the BFG tech that I had on the phone didn't know diddly squat as he recommended a new PSU ( I have a 600W PSU). Maybe I should try a nuclear reactor.

A Coolmax Power supply? Those aren't SLI-Certified.

Be very wary of running dual cards with this power supply (especially dual GTX OC's); Coolmax's aren't very good quality either.
