Help with new build
Put together a new system last week. Here are the "relevant" details:
p4-3.6 asus P5LD2 Deluxe m-bd 2gb Corsair DDR2 BFG 7800GTX OC 600W Power supply Thermaltake bigwater SE cooling system 300Gb Seagate SATA I got the board to post and installed windows and all updates including DX9. I installed the video card drivers and the monitor goes black and I get freezing of the graphics (windows hang, menus lag, etc.). I checked the TM and the processor is spiking every three seconds or so. I downloaded the latest bios from asus and flashed it. I uninstalled (w/detonator destroyer) and installed SIX different n-vidia drivers. I even wiped and re-installed windows with no success. I have spent two hours on tech support with both asus and bfg with no luck. Both of them point fingers at the other. Obviously, I am devastated after spending over 2K for the components. I am confident that it is something simple that I am overlooking. Any help would be appreciated as the best Christamas present I cold hope for!!! |

That is one very high end rig you have there. What brand is that PSU? Is this setup overclocked?

It's the best I can do at this point. I will try taking the components out and assembling them as recommended in the above thread. |

ya a memtest is a good idea, you can find it here: memtest.org, but try removing someram first to see if thats the problem, if it dosent work switch the ram with the ones you just remove
i dont recomend OC your stuff, reasons: there is no garanty that it will work (it could screw up things), and once you OC'ed the garanty for the store is gone. so if it dosent work, your screwd |

A Coolmax Power supply? Those aren't SLI-Certified.
http://www.slizone.com/object/slizon..._powersupplies Be very wary of running dual cards with this power supply (especially dual GTX OC's); Coolmax's aren't very good quality either. http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195
