:sigh: Credit card just arrived $1500 limit. Inspect/suggest please.

I got most of this from the forum here. If you know anything better cheaper etc. I would appreciate it. Also those OEM Caviar Western Digitals, their reviews on Newegg complain often about how hard they are to set up and about them breaking down, yet lots of posters on PCMech suggest the drive. They say to get the retail version, but Newegg doesn't have any, neither does the WD main site. So I'm a little worried about that purchase. Anyway...

Have Newegg approved PSU and case. I would also like suggestions on decent surround sound speakers and an ethernet card. Then I think thats it?

Suggestions:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $159.99

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor - Retail $282.00

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM System Memory - Retail $179.00

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB 3.5" SATA 300 MB/s Hard Drive - OEM $115

LITE-ON ATAPI/E-IDE DVD Burner Model SHW-1635S RTL - Retail $39.99

Microsoft Windows XP Home With SP2 - OEM $93.95

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value SB0400 Sound Card - Retail $65.00

eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256-P2-N516 Video Card - Retail $299.00

NEC Black Internal Floppy Drive Model FD1231H-302 - OEM $7.99

115/230 V UL, TUV, CB, FCC CLASS B, CUL - Retail $89.99

Total: $1,338.16

I'd rather not max my credit card out the day after I get it. I need speakers and ethernet, but those shouldn't cost More than $300 I hope.

What power supply do you have? You need a SLI-Certified power supply.

The motherboard has onboard ethernet, no need for an ethernet card. Sorry, I can't suggest a set of surround sound speakers.

Why not get a DVD-RW? You may need DVD capabilities. A LITE-ON DVD-RW will run you about $40.

An upgrade XP copy? You need a full XP Home copy. It's probably cheaper.

I haven't heard too many good things about XFX video cards...I'd rather see an eVGA or ASUS card.

Blue can you suggest a modestly priced SLI certified PSU?

I'll make your changes.

Antec Truepower II 550

It's probably one of the cheapest SLI certified power supplies, but still high quality.

Oh, and an OEM hard drive won't be a problem. The motherboard should come with all the necessary cables.

I have the Logitech Z-680 speakers, I love em and they were blowing them out last year around christmas time, now they are doing that with the updated version of them (not sure the model #), it's a 5.1 surround system, cost me about $200, you could probably find them cheaper now. they are quite powerful though and if u aren't that into audio they may be a little bit higher than you wanted to spend.

Your parts selection looks fine.

You may want to hear what the on-board audio sounds like before you buy a sound card.

If you're worried about using Western Digital hard drives, get Seagate hard drives instead. They work fine and have 5 year warranties.

Cricket have you heard that motherboard sound? I'd like to save $60 for sure. I'm no audio freak, just want surround sound.

Your version of WinXP you have chosen there is what you want, it is full OEM version and not upgrade version as suggested by Blue.

Sorry, I get it now that you have edited your original list..

Looks good. Like Cricket said, you might try the onboard sound before getting a sound card. That's something you can always add later.
